Troubleshooting

Start with the lowest-risk fixes first: restart the game, confirm Steam is online, verify files, and avoid deleting saves until you have copied them somewhere safe.

Problem Try First Then Check
Continue crashes or hangs Restart Fortune Mill, then verify game files from Steam. If it repeats on the same save, copy the save before experimenting and check Save Data and Carryover.
Window or fullscreen behaves badly Switch to windowed mode from settings if you can reach the menu. If you cannot reach settings, restart and test Steam compatibility or display settings.
Steam Deck input feels wrong Try touchscreen, trackpad, and controller mappings. If one input style works, save that layout before changing Proton settings.
Linux launch behaves differently Try a fresh restart and a different Proton compatibility option. Keep regular and Lethal saves separate in your head before assuming progress is gone.
IdleOn reward does not appear Finish the run, return to the main menu, and use the crossover prompt. See IdleOn Pet Redemption for the redemption flow.

The game autosaves every 9,000 frames and also saves from settings changes. The regular save is separate from Lethal Mode. See Save Data and Carryover if you need the exact saved systems.

  • Do not treat Lethal Mode as the same save as your regular run. It uses a separate save path.
  • If a crash appears tied to Continue, copy the save before testing fixes.
  • If a settings change fixes display or input, let the game save normally before restarting again.
  • After regular completion, New Game+ creates a fresh regular setup with the NG+ counter increased.

Windowed mode is a settings option. If the game crashes before you can reach settings, try restarting first, then test compatibility settings from Steam if needed.

If controls feel awkward on Steam Deck or Linux, try touchscreen, trackpad, and controller mappings before assuming the save is broken. If launch behavior changes after an update, test a different Proton compatibility option before clearing data.

The June 9 PDT patch added a MacOS build. If the Mac version opens with odd input, display, or save behavior, try windowed mode, restart Steam, and verify local files before deleting save data.

If the game fails right after Continue or while loading, restart the PC first, then verify files in Steam. If the problem is tied to a specific save, keep a copy of the save before experimenting.
